A bagel breakfast or gift certificates for a team work quite well. The gesture shows that you care, and good leaders really do.

Leaders listen more than talk. Being a great leader starts with listening to what your team has to say. Really hear your employees when they speak. Listen to complaints as well as accolades. Listen to what employees say when it comes to the products and buyers. You’ll learn quite a bit about what you can do to better your business if you listen to others.

If you work in an industry that requires you to take risks, allow you employees the opportunity to take those necessary risks with confidence. Those risks will not always pay off so you need to make a plan for evaluating various risk factors. Stand behind your employee’s decision and never berate them for risks that didn’t pay off.
